What Is the Difference Between CBSE Verification and Re-evaluation?

The process is strictly sequential — you must complete each stage in order. You cannot apply for re-evaluation without first getting the answer sheet photocopy.

Stage 1 — Answer Sheet Photocopy (Closed)

Students applied to get a scanned digital copy of their evaluated answer book at ₹100 per subject. This window closed on May 25. Only students who completed Stage 1 can move to Stage 2 or Stage 3.

Stage 2 — Verification of Marks (Closed: May 29)

After reviewing the answer sheet, if a student finds a totalling error — marks written correctly on the paper but not added to the total, or a full answer left unmarked — they apply for verification at ₹100 per subject. A subject expert checks the specific issues raised. This window closed on May 29, 2026.

Stage 3 — Re-evaluation of Specific Questions (May 31 – June 5)

If a student believes a specific question was marked incorrectly — based on the official CBSE marking scheme — they can challenge it at ₹25 per question. The fee is refunded if marks go up. Note that marks can also decrease after re-evaluation, and the result is final. Apply only where you have a clear, specific reason based on the marking scheme — not just because the marks were lower than expected. Students who fail a subject after re-evaluation should read our guide on CBSE Class 12 additional subject and fail rules.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: My child missed the photocopy deadline. Can they still apply for re-evaluation?

A: No. A student must complete Stage 1 (photocopy) before applying for Stage 2 or Stage 3. The photocopy window closed on May 25 and will not reopen. The next option is the CBSE compartment exam 2026, expected in July 2026.

Q: What is the difference between verification and re-evaluation?

A: Verification checks for totalling errors — marks correctly given on an answer but not added to the total, or an answer left unmarked. Re-evaluation challenges whether a specific question was marked correctly, based on the CBSE marking scheme. Verification is ₹100 per subject; re-evaluation is ₹25 per question.

Q: Can marks decrease after re-evaluation?

A: Yes. Marks can go up, go down, or stay the same. Even a decrease of one mark is implemented and the result is final. Only challenge questions where you have a clear, specific reason based on the official marking scheme.

Q: What is the last date to apply for CBSE 12th re-evaluation 2026?

A: The re-evaluation window (Stage 3) is open from May 31 to June 5, 2026. Applications close at 11:59 PM on June 5. This deadline will not be extended.

Q: How do I check my re-evaluation result?

A: Log in to cbse.gov.in with your roll number and application number from your confirmation page. CBSE will update the status once the subject expert committee completes the review. Once the revised marksheet is available, you can download the updated CBSE 12th marksheet via DigiLocker.

Q: Can a student apply for re-evaluation in multiple subjects?

A: Yes. But all subject applications must be submitted together in one session. You cannot come back later to add another subject, so decide everything before you begin the application.

What Should Parents Know Before the June 5 Deadline?

The CBSE Class 12 revaluation 2026 window closes on June 5. Do not wait until the last day — the portal sees heavy traffic near deadlines. Review your child’s answer sheet carefully against the official CBSE marking scheme. Apply only where there is a clear error. Once submitted, the re-evaluated result is final and cannot be challenged further. Students who need subject support ahead of the compartment exam can explore online CBSE tuition for focused, one-to-one preparation.
